Education, Sport and Culture (ESC) and the Association of Guernsey Charities (AGC) are encouraging members of the public to register to volunteer on 9 May 2025.
Islanders can register online to help run stalls along St Peter Port seafront, marshal the coastal cavalcade or help drive and deliver goods around the island.
Anyone over 16 can put their name forward to work 2.5 hour timeslots, from 8am into the evening.
In October, Guernsey's States announced a large programme of events, to celebrate 80 years of freedom from German Occupation.
Kristin Dowling from the Association of Guernsey Charities says they hope the 'Guernsey Together' feeling from the Island Games 2023 will return for Liberation Day.
"We had such positive feedback from the Island Games - people came away from it buzzing.
So I hope that a lot of people who have volunteered for the Island Games will feel inspired again, to put the hands up and put their name down."
Hundreds of islanders volunteered to help run Guernsey's 2023 Island Games
"Obviously Liberation Day means a lot to people in Guernsey and the 80th celebration probably going to be the biggest yet, and we could not do this without the support of volunteers.
I think this will be a really great opportunity for people who are local as well as for people who are new, because obviously it’s a big part of Guernsey history, and being able to participate in an event as a volunteer that’s very close to the heart of people live in Guernsey will be fantastic."
Deputy Sue Aldwell from the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture, says it will be a historic occasion.
"Liberation Day is such an important occasion for so many in our community, as we remember all of those who were evacuated or continued to live on the island during the Occupation.
The day’s proceedings will not be possible without the help of volunteers and with 2025 marking the 80th anniversary, we are expecting large numbers in both St Peter Port and at the parish events.
Volunteering allows you to be at the very heart of the celebration, and your support is needed to ensure the milestone celebrations run smoothly."
The Liberation Day Volunteer Team will be in touch with volunteers in the new year, with further details about available roles and timeslots.
