Channel Islanders prepare for hottest day of the year so far

It is set to be the hottest day of the year so far in the Channel Islands.

The sun is out, in what many are hailing as the true start to summer after a below-average beginning of the season.

Temperatures are predicted to reach 28°C in Jersey and 25°C in Guernsey.

This is up from Tuesday's peaks of 26.5°C degrees in Jersey and 22°C in Guernsey.

It's also predicted to be UV 8 in both islands today, which is 'very high' on the UV scale.

This means that islanders are likely to burn quickly. There is therefore a push to be safe in the sun and make sure we have both hats and sun cream on.

WATCH: Stay safe on Jersey's beaches this summer

For those getting excited that the heatwave is here to stay however, Jersey Met forecaster Adrienne Le Maistre has warned that it might be short-lived:

"I might even be 28 degrees today - around that mark - but we have got some cooler air coming in on Thursday, so it's 'make the most out of it'

"It's a good couple of days for warmth and sunshine that we're able to enjoy. It's a taste of summer.

" Hopefully, will see a bit more of it as times goes on, but certainly Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be the best few days this week."
