Guernsey's Liberation Day bunting project 'is building momentum'

Islanders have enthusiastically been signing up to craft bunting for Guernsey's 80th Liberation Day.

Guernsey woman Megs Bailey announced last month her desire to string hand-crafted bunting along St Peter Port's seafront, to 'properly' celebrate 9 May 2025.

Since then, the fabric donation boxes she placed around the island have been overflowing.

She says the support has been overwhelming.

"It's all piled up in my garage at the moment, almost touching the ceiling.

I think at the moment we are pretty safe to say that we can reach from the Weighbridge to the Crown Pier."

She has begun sorting the colourful fabrics into bundles today with templates and thread, to be handed out from next week.

47 individuals and three schools - the Vale, Notre Dame du Rosaire and Melrose - have register to join the project.

Megs says she wants people of all ages and walks of life to join in.
