The former Southampton and England player has tweeted 'it's time to look forward to life's next challenge'.

The broadcaster's reportedly let him go, along with fellow Soccer Saturday contributor Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas as part of cost-cutting measures.

The Guernseyman - nicknamed Le God - has been inundated with messages of support on social media, while presenter Jeff Stelling called the departures  one of his saddest days ever.
