Homelessness Getting Worse In Guernsey

Citizens Advice on the Bridge has recorded a record number of homeless islanders seeking advice.

In the first 6 months of 2023, 21 people have contacted the service, saying they are struggling to find somewhere affordable to live for the long term - a significantly higher number than normal.

Interim CEO Annie Ashmead says this is shocking:

"When you consider how affluent Guernsey is as an island, the fact that there are people who are homeless or facing the situation of becoming homeless should be a serious concern to everyone."

She added that the real figure of homeless locals could be higher:

"Personally, I have seen people living rough. But, I wouldn’t be able to say if the clients who come to Citizens Advice are among those who may be living in a tent or living in a shelter."

The charity says the soaring cost of living has contributed to this issue, but clients are facing one, or more than one of the factors listed below:
