Police appeal for witnesses following spate of burglaries

Six burglaries were reported to police over the weekend.

All of them took place between the junction of Les Amballes and the Bouet, and the Pitronnerie Road Industrial Estate.

Guernsey Police say thousands of pounds worth of goods and cash were stolen, and they are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Kieran Walsh says a spate of burglaries like this is very uncommon over here.

'That being said, some of these burglaries would have been more unlikely to happen if the properties had been properly secured.

'I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of closing and locking windows and doors. Don't let this recent spell of good weather let you become complacent and leave windows open - because as these cases show, there are a small minority in our community who are looking for an opportunity to commit crimes.

'If we all make it harder for a burglary to be committed, the chances of it happening and you being a victim are vastly reduced.'

Detective Walsh is asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious overnight on the 27th in to the 28th of July to get in touch with law enforcement.

'Remember, what might seem trivial to you could be the key bit of information for us - and the more information we have, the higher the chance we have of securing an arrest and conviction.'

If you think you can be of assistance you can call 01481 725111 or 0800 555 111 for Crimestoppers.
