Storm Darragh is expected to bring severe gale force winds gusting up to 75mph to the Channel Islands this weekend.
Jersey Met says north-westerly winds will pick up overnight on Friday reaching gale force 8 by dawn on Saturday and occasionally severe gale F9 by Saturday afternoon.
They are predicted to weaken for a time on Sunday to northerly strong force 7 with gusts to 55mph, before increasing again on Sunday night to potentially gale force 8 for a time.
Darragh is the forth named storm of the season and it has prompted 'risk to life' warnings in parts of the UK.
Forecaster Matthew Winter says we can expect disruption across the islands.
"Ferry services are going to be impacted and possibly also the flights coming in and out of the islands on Saturday.
"There could be some damage, trees down... with the strengths of wind that we're likely to see.
"If you're going to put Christmas lights and Christmas decorations up, inflatable Santas, I would wait until after this weekend.
"Those strengths of wind are likely to lift thing up and throw them around."
Islanders are urged to only travel if necessary, tie down personal property, and keep away from coastal areas.
Boatowners are advised to check their moorings.
Jersey's ice rink will be closed on Saturday and Sunday and the annual Battle Christmas Parade has been postponed for safety reasons.
Organisers said: "We are looking to confirm a new date and will share updates as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on our social media."
Guernsey airline Aurigny is offering passengers booked to travel over the weekend the opportunity to change flights for free.
