St John Constable Andy Jehan will have political responsibility for sport in Jersey's government.

The new Infrastructure Minister has been given the sports remit.

It was previously held by Deputy Lucy Stephenson under Kristina Moore's administration.

There is a new Council of Ministers after Deputy Moore lost a confidence vote in her leadership.

Constable Jehan says he is looking forward to getting to work.

Deputy Stephenson previously told Channel 103 she had wanted to continue in the role, but will champion sport from the backbenches and is already working on bringing forward some of her own propositions based on the work she was doing.

Constable Andy Jehan says he would like to thank Lucy for her efforts in sport.

"I know that she put her heart and soul into the job and I think she did a very good job, so I'm looking to build upon what she started, not to change direction.

There may be a couple of tweaks here and there, but in general, I'm really looking forward to building upon the work that she's already started."

An area of focus for the new Sports Minister is holding discussions about the possibilities of hosting the Island Games.

"One thing that I'm very keen to do is to talk to the Council of Ministers to back Jersey hosting the Games again in the near future."

It follows our sister island, Guernsey's, successful go at holding the games in 2023.

The Constable of St John also says as a fan of sports, both internationally and closer to home, he's excited about the future prospects in Jersey.

There is always lots to do whether that's trying to help organisations with funding or whether that's trying to encourage businesses to support organisations or whether that looking at facilities."

Other Assistant Ministers have also been chosen.

Moz Scott is Kirsten Morel's assistant at Economic Development.

At CYPES, Malcolm Ferey takes delegated responsibility for children's social care, CAMHS and Skills Jersey.

Carina Alves deputises for her reform colleague, Education Minister Rob Ward. She's also Sam Mezec's deputy At Housing.

Children's Minister Constable Richard Vibert gets second billing at Home Affairs and Constable Mike Jackson at Environment.

Deputy Chief Minister Tom Binet's supporters in bringing the VONC against Kristina Moore - Rose Binet, Andy Howell and Barbara Ward - join him at Health.

Ian Gorst backs up his successor Elaine Millar at the Treasury having held the role himself in the last government.

Both Deputies Ferey, Alves and Rose Binet were previously named at Assistant Chief Ministers too.
