Babies Given Ear Defenders During Maternity Ward Refurb

Neonatal Unit Manager Anne Patterson showing how they work

Newborn babies on Jersey's maternity ward are being given ear defenders while noisy refurbishment work is going on.

They are being used as a precaution while the facility at the General Hospital is undergoing a £6.5 million overhaul, which includes a bigger Special Care Baby Unit and en-suite delivery rooms.

The work is due to be completed by October 2023.

Health & Social Care officials say regular noise assessments are being carried out, and the noise has been deemed to be within safe levels.
