CM's Pick For Housing Minister Revealed

Deputy Russell Labey is the Chief Minister's pick to be Jersey's new Housing and Communities Minister.

The current incumbent, Deputy Jeremy Macon, is being nominated for the new role of Children and Education Minister instead.

Deputy Labey is currently the chairman of PPC (Privileges and Procedures Committee) and chairman of the Planning Committee.

"I am delighted to be nominating Russell as Minister for Housing and Communities. I know he will bring both experience and enthusiasm to this role and I look forward to working with him.

"This role will ensure that we will have a champion and support for good housing and for critical elements of our community." - Senator John Le Fondre, Chief Minister.

Other politicians can be put forward to challenge Deputy Labey for the position. The election will take place tomorrow morning (Tuesday 9 February).

The Chief Minister announced last week that he would sign an order to create a new role of Housing and Communities, and combine the Children and Education portfolios.

Senator Sam Mezec was the former Housing Minister. He resigned in November 2020 to support the no-confidence vote against Senator Le Fondre.

Deputy Macon was elected to replace him, but he also became Acting Education Minister when Senator Tracey Vallois resigned from that role last month.
