Coronavirus: 14 Deaths Confirmed Alongside Recovery Numbers

Two more coronavirus-related deaths have been confirmed in Jersey, bringing the total to 14.

The Chief Minister has also revealed that 118 islanders are known to have recovered from COVID-19.

2,192 tests have been carried out so far, with 249 coming back positive.

Senator John Le Fondre, began a press conference this afternoon with details of the numbers:

"As of today, we have tested 2192 samples for COVID-19 and have received 1880 negative results and 249 positive results.

"Of those with positive results, 42% are male and 58% are female. The average age of those who have tested positive is 54. We are currently awaiting the results of 153 outstanding tests.

"I am pleased to report that 118 Islanders have fully recovered from coronavirus, having originally tested positive. 45% of those who have recovered are male, and 55% are female. Their average age is 45."

14 patients are currently being treated in hospital, but there is still no information about whether those who died were being treated there, in care homes or were at home.

As of 8am today there was a total of 134 beds available in the hospital, giving an occupancy rate of 32%.

153 test results are pending.

The Chief Minister also pledged that more details about the current coronavirus cases in Jersey will from now on be published on Gov.je.

The Senator is due to appear at a second media briefing this week on Friday afternoon, having said he has 'listened carefully' to public feedback on how communications could be improved.

He used his speech today to further defend the location and cost of the field hospital at Millbrook, saying it met the criteria for quick and immediate action and adding that £4.8m of the total £14.4m spend is on medical equipment that will be re-purposed after the Covid-19 crisis.
