DFDS timetable and final contract signing due next week

DFDS have confirmed that a ferry timetable for Jersey will be released by the end of next week (21 December)

This is also the new deadline for when the Government of Jersey and the Danish ferry company will complete their contract signing, formalising DFDS as the island's ferry operator for the next 15 years.

The company was announced as the chosen ferry company on 3 December, over rival bidder Brittany Ferries.

Services from Portsmouth, Poole and St Malo have been promised in the new timetable.

It was confirmed last week that there will initially be a dedicated fleet of four vessels - two freight and two high speed - just as Condor Ferries currently operates.

There are promises to invest further in ships, including a pledge to get the island three new ferries within six years.

The ferry company also wants to bring down the length of travel times to the UK and add more sailings at peak times.

The Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, Deputy Kirsten Morel said: “Discussions are going well, and we are on track to sign a contract that will provide the best possible services for Islanders.”

DFDS Route Director for Jersey, Chris Parker said: “Everything is underway to get the service up and running. We’re focusing on Jersey, to make sure we get it done as quickly as possible.”
