Handful Of Drink-Drive Arrests

Jersey Police have stopped a thousand motorists since the start of December. Six arrests have been made for drink-driving.

The emergency services launched a joint annual festive anti drink-drive campaign with the message #nonefortheroad.

There have been extra patrols of the roads since the beginning of this month.

As of Monday (20 December) 990 motorists had been stopped in road checks.

97 had been breathalysed and just six arrests had been made for driving over the legal limit.

Inspector Callum O'Connor, who heads up Jersey's Roads Policing team, says it seems islanders seem to be getting the message of 'none for the road':

"When we look at the statistics, I have to take a positive away from that.

People here are being sensible.  Hopefully the campaign is working.  I'd love the number to be zero.  Will we ever get there? I don't know.  We will do our best.

If you know that you have to use your car later on, just have a soft drink.  Keep yourself safe, the passengers in your vehicle safe, and other road users safe."
