Ice Warning For Commuters

Gritters have been out on Jersey's roads in preparation for a potentially icy morning commute.

Below freezing temperatures following Tuesday's snowfall is likely to have made conditions hazardous in places.

An Infrastructure and Environment team has been working since 2am to salt the island's main roads.

People are advised to allow more time for their journeys, and to adjust their driving to suit the conditions.

Daytime temperatures on Wednesday (10 January) are not expected to exceed 2 degrees Celsius.

Up to five centimetres of snow fell on Jersey on Tuesday, the first significant flurries since 2018.

Flights were delayed, and some schools closed early because of the weather.

The airport runway has been inspected this morning and early flights boarded.

Headteachers will decide if they can open their school safely. Parents who don't hear otherwise should assume it is.

Well-used pavements and paths in St Helier have been being salted, but pedestrians and cyclists are advised to take extra caution.

Liberty Bus is expecting to run a normal service today.
