Isle of Man wins the first Cherry Godfrey Cup

The Cherry Godfrey Cup final held at Springfield Stadium

The Isle of Man has been crowned the winner of the first inter-island women's football cup, after beating Jersey on penalties.

The Cherry Godfrey Cup is a new four-island women's football tournament between Jersey, Guernsey, The Isle of Wight, and the Isle of Man.

Jonathan Le Fondre, interim CEO of Jersey FA, said: "Women's football is growing steadily, and the girls' game is through the roof.

"Part of our strategy over the next four years is to make sure we support that growth.

"We're seeing a massive spike in interest in women's football, and rightly so, because what we've seen today is an absolute treat."

It was hosted by Jersey FA at Springfield Stadium and entry was free.

Jonathan told Channel 103 he was excited to see new faces, with the final being many attendees' first time watching a football game.

Guernsey came 4th, the Isle of Wight 3rd, and the 0-0 final saw Jersey take 2nd after being defeated on penalties.

The Cherry Godfrey Cup will be a biennial event, with the host island rotating between the four participating jurisdictions.
