300 segments of Madonna's stage-worn knickers are going on sale today (12 April), in what is being called a 'world exclusive'.

They are being sold as 'NFTs' which stands for Non-Fungible Tokens.

An NFT is a unique digital asset that is verified on a blockchain and cannot be replicated.

They are often used to represent art, collectables, or other types of digital content, and the buyers of the underwear will be sent a video authenticity.

300 parts of the lingerie item will be sold for $100 each by Jersey-based business 'CollectorLabs' but buyers will not get a physical item for their money, as they will be kept as a whole.

The pop icon, Madonna, wore the underwater on her 1987 'Who's That Girl' tour.

Company CEO, Mike Hall says fractional ownership is an exciting new area for collectors.

"Not only will Madonna collectors want to own your fraction when you come to sell, NFT collectors will also be keen to own it. It means tens of thousands more collectors for your slice. We’re expecting huge interest in the knickers."

The segments go on sale at 2 pm today (12 April).

The company says it will be selling other fractional NFTs throughout the year including astronaut Buzz Aldrin’s Apollo 11 training spacesuit and Gandhi’s dinner bowl from prison.
