Jersey ice rink delayed by three weeks

The opening of Jersey's pop-up ice rink has been delayed by three weeks.

It was due to open at the Weighbridge on 26 October, in time for school half-term holidays, but will now not see skaters until 15 November.

Jersey Development Company (JDC) says this is down to a contractor damaging an electricity cable, which will now need to be fixed by specialist teams from the UK.

The accident happened when the worker was putting up the marquee's weather-proofing materials and drilled in a heavy-duty iron anchoring stake into the cable.

A trench will need to be dug for the repair.

The JDC says they 'appreciate that that there will be many disappointed children as the rink had been planned to open in time for the October half-term and are sorry for the unforeseen delay to the ice rink’s opening'.

We're told the new opening date (15 November) is subject to change depending on how repair work goes.
