Jersey Teen Presents Premier League Trophy

Jersey teenager Ben Mason presented Premier League winners Manchester City with the trophy at the Etihad stadium.

The 16 year old was given the honour of handing the players their medals at the end of their 3-2 victory over Aston Villa which sealed their status as top flight champions.

Ben also handed over the coveted Premier League trophy to City captain Fernandinho.

The GCSE student has raised more than £100,000 for mental health charities since the sudden death of his 14 year old sister Kezia earlier this year.

He set up a Justgiving page with the aim of raising £1,500, saying he wanted to save just one person and their family suffering a similar tragedy.

Dad Rob urged islanders to watch the medal presentation, saying they might spot a familiar face.

"Hello friends - no matter which team you support right now, I strongly recommend you watch the trophy presentation….you might see someone you recognise….it’s going to be very emotional."

Ben was only told by his dad that this would happen the day before the match and admits he didn't believe him at first!

"I was overcome not only with the emotion of seeing the team I love winning the league, but knowing that I get to be part of that presentation and celebration, it was just very surreal.

It did feel like a dream and I just had to focus on trying not to show my nerves and try and get done what I'd been told to do.

I congratulated a lot of them and got loads of thankyou's back and just being able to shake Phil Foden's hand was an amazing honour."

Other islanders took to social media to express their delight in seeing Ben on their TV.

UK sports journalists also covered the story of Ben's appearance and his charity appeal.

Manchester City staged one of the great Premier League comebacks to win the title for the fourth time in the past five seasons.

Pep Guardiola's side were 2-nil down against Aston Villa with 14 minutes to go on the final day of the campaign - before winning 3-2.

City finished a point above Liverpool - who beat Wolves 3-1.
