LibertyBus trials another electric bus

Islanders will notice yet another electric bus being trialled in the island over the next two weeks.

The Pelican Engineering Yutong double-decker will run on Route 15 from 29 January to 15 February 2025.

It will also go on some out-of-service trials across all of Jersey's double-decker routes.

LibertyBus says, whilst it has trialled other electric buses, it wants to ensure it has tried and tested all options before committing to buying them.

Ian Downie, Head of Yutong UK, boosts that not only are these vehicles zero-emission, but they also have 'unrivalled passenger comfort'.

"This will encourage the travelling public to leave their cars at home and use public transport, further decarbonising Jersey."

The bus company and Jersey's government have agreed to move towards a net-zero carbon emissions public transport network.

The Yutong double-decker is an electric-battery bus that can travel 338km on a single charge, seats up to 70 passengers and has air conditioning, safety systems and electronic destination blinds.

Kevin Hart, Director for LibertyBus, says they just have to make sure it can cope with the island's roads.

"The bus seats an impressive 70 people with maximum comfort and room for an additional 12 people standing.

"Hopefully our customers will like the bus and we welcome feedback."
