A 51 year old man has been found guilty of six rapes and one indecent assault following a trial at Jersey's Royal Court.

Jose Rodrigues Camacho was found to have repeatedly abused a woman for over two decades, from 2000 - 2021.

The victim came forward to the police in April 2023 and disclosed several sexual assaults that took place over the 21 year period.

Camacho was arrested that month and released on bail. He was formally charged with the offences in February 2024.

Both the victim and a witness gave evidence during the trial.

DC Carla Garnier praised them both for their bravery:

“The States of Jersey Police would like to commend the victim and witness in this case, for both coming forward and then having the courage to stand up in court and give their evidence.

“Throughout this investigation and trial, the victim has been supported by Jersey Domestic Abuse Service and that support will continue going forward.

“The States of Jersey Police takes domestic abuse extremely seriously, working with our partner agencies to support the victims of these crimes, we seek to bring perpetrators to justice.”

Camacho will be sentenced on 4 April 2025.
