Neil Warnock Signed Up For JFA Awards

Legendary football manager Neil Warnock is coming to Jersey this May.

He will be guest speaker for the Jersey FA Awards Night.

Warnock has manged sixteen clubs in a career spanning five decades, and holds the record for the most promotions in English football, with eight league titles.

The 74 year old is a popular TV and radio personality, providing punditry on Sky TV's Soccer Saturday and TalkSPORT radio.

As a player he began his career as a winger with Chesterfield FC.

He scored  36 goals in 327 career league appearances before retiring from league football in 1979 at the age of 30.

After a spell in non-league football with Burton Albion, Warnock turned to management until his retirement last April.

Over 42 years he has led Middlesborough, Cardiff City, Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Queen's Park Rangers, among others.

One of his most memorable spells was in charge of his boyhood club Sheffield United from 1999 to 2007, leading them to promotion to the Premier League in 2006.

JFA CEO David Kennedy told Channel 103 he's delighted to have secured his appearance:

"He's a massive figure.  He is a legendary figure in football - both when he was a manager and in terms of what he doing now on the punditry side.

I am not going to lie, I gave a bit of a high five to myself because this is obviously massive for us."

The event will take place at the Radisson Hotel on Friday 19 May. Tickets cost £70 and can be purchased by contacting info@jerseyfa.com.

The JFA is also looking for sponsorship for the event.
