Jersey Police have praised the bravery of the victim of a 'disturbing' random beating in St Helier as his attackers are jailed.

37 year old Mark Goodchild and 29 year old Addison Mazurke have been sentenced to four years in prison.

They were convicted last October of punching and throwing a man to the ground, stealing from him and then recording him on a phone as he lay unconscious.

Condemning the level of violence, Detective Constable Caroline Foord said the victim has shown great courage throughout.

“The violent and confrontation behaviour of Mazurke and Goodchild was particularly disturbing, as they found an opportunity to single out an unknown individual, leaving them injured and unconscious on the ground.

The victim showed a great level of courage to report this matter to Police to ensure appropriate action could be taken."

The attack, in September 2022, left the victim with a broken collar bone which needed surgery. He also needed stitches to his ear, suffered swelling to his head and body and was unable to work for several weeks.

The pair were identified by police after an officer reviewed CCTV footage from the area.

They denied grave and criminal assault and larceny, but were found guilty after a four-day trial at Jersey's Royal Court.
