PC Flats Reporting For Duty

Jersey has two new officers that will be working around speeding hotspots in the island, but there is something a little bit different about them.

That's because PC Flats is a 2D cutout of an officer with a speed gun.

It's hoped the two figures, which cost £250 each, will help remind drivers about their speed.

Inspector Callum O’Connor, Roads Policing Lead says that they will be attached to lamp posts in hotspots and built up areas.

"We appreciate that motorists will quickly realise that PC Flat is in fact, just a cut-out, but we hope when they are spotted, it will remind those drivers who regularly speed to slow down.

This is a relatively new initiative that’s only been used in the UK several times, but it’s a different idea we are keen to try as part of our general road safety and accident prevention work."

Last year 600 drivers in Jersey were reported to the police for speeding.
