Prison Officer Tests Positive For Coronavirus

A Jersey Prison Officer has tested positive for coronavirus.

They are now isolating at home with the rest of their household.

28 other officers are also isolating as a precaution while contact tracing takes place.

All in-person visits have been suspended today (20 November) as a result.

These officers are being covered by others not affected by this positive case. Channel 103 has been told that 118 staff are still working at the prison. They are 'a mixture of prison officers and other staff'.

The government says no prisoners have been affected and that there is no evidence that Covid-19 is active within HMP La Moye.

"These measures are vital to protect the health of our staff and prisoners, and to ensure that we are all playing our part to minimise the spread of COVID-19. We have well-prepared plans to deal with the absence of staff in a scenario such as this.

"We are keeping the Independent Prison Monitoring Board (IPMB) informed of all measures we are taking to look after the well-being of prisoners and our staff." - Nick Watkins, Acting Governor.
