Sharp Rise In Covid Cases 'Expected'

210 new cases of coronavirus have been found in Jersey over the weekend.

It takes the active total to 572.

Of the new cases, 97 were from people seeking healthcare.

Two people with the virus are receiving treatment in hospital.

The government says this rise was expected and the risk of severe illness and hospitalisation remains low, which shows a significant level of protection in the community.

Ministers warned, when announcing that direct contacts no longer had to isolate if they agreed to be tested, that cases would rise as a result.

8 in 10 Jersey adults have now had their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

More than 53,000 islanders have had both doses, as of the end of last month.

Anyone yet to book their first jab who wants to be fully vaccinated by mid-August is being urged to book it before the end of this week.
