South Hill Skate Park Plans To Be Submitted 'Shortly'

Another planning application to build a skate park at South Hill will be submitted 'shortly'.

The government says the plan is to build one more in keeping with the area, rather than as the 'main' Jersey park.

An application was submitted to build a skate park at South Hill Gardens in March last year, around three weeks after an application was entered to build one at Les Quennevais too.

Pre-planning advice for South Hill had suggested it was not a good site for the facility of heritage and safety reasons

The Les Quennevais application was approved in November 2021 and work started in February 2022, but the South Hill application went quiet.

It has been revealed that it was withdrawn so plans for a 'supplementary park more in keeping with the South Hill area' could be revisited.

A government spokesperson has told Channel 103 that officers have been working to make sure the plans are 'more landscape architecture led' and incorporates the wider area.

They add that work is being done on an outline application to restore and improve the historic parks and how a new skate park can fit into that.

Channel 103 revealed earlier this month that work on the Les Quennevais facility has been delayed because of the impact of the war in Ukraine on getting materials.

No date has been given for when it will open, but it has previously been hoped it will be in use in time for the school summer holidays.
