St Clement Field Saved

The National Trust is saying 'Thank You' to islanders who have helped save a field in St Clement.

It has raised £50,000 pounds in just 37 days to protect the land next to Maupertuis Farm from any future development.

The charity says many of those who supported the cause said they had witnesses past large scale development, and they wanted to ensure open space still remains for future generations.

The Trust launched its Field 80 campaign at the end of January.

84 donations were received from residents in Jersey and 3 from the UK and further afield, for amounts ranging from £10 to £10,000.

"The land is next to Maupertuis Farm which has been bequeathed to the Trust and which is the subject of a life interest. This extra field will allow it to remain viable as a smallholding with space for grazing livestock and will protect it forever from any development. " - National Trust for Jersey.

The Trust says that, during the campaign, several landowners discussed the possibility of putting restrictive covenants on their land and it hopes other islanders might consider this option 'as a way of preserving the remaining rural character of St Clement'.
