Storm Alex Causes Travel Disruption Across The Island

Police closed Victoria Avenue westbound for a time this morning as Storm Alex has kicked up high waves and debris over the sea wall.

It re-opened at around 9am.

Officers are urging motorists to take extra care on the roads because of debris and fallen trees, caused by gusts of up 70mph.

A red level wind warning remains in place for the Channel Islands, with Jersey Met also warning of the risk of coastal and localised flooding.

The weather warning issued last night

Condor Ferries has cancelled today's high-speed sailings, and disruption is expected to passenger and freight services over the weekend.

There is also disruption to flights.

 

Forecasters recorded around 30 millimetres of rain overnight and have said we could get a month's worth before the end of the week.
