UPDATES: Closures and advice ahead of Storm Darragh

Jersey Met has predicated Storm Darragh will bring gale force 8 winds or stronger this weekend and recommends islanders stay inside.

Jersey Met says north-westerly winds will pick up overnight on Friday reaching gale force 8 by dawn on Saturday and occasionally severe gale F9 by Saturday afternoon.

Darragh is the forth named storm of the season and it has prompted 'risk to life' warnings in parts of the UK.

In Jersey, the advice is to only travel if necessary, tie down personal property, and keep away from coastal areas.

The Jersey Coastguard advises people to avoid coastal areas, and boatowners to to check their moorings.

While we can expect rainfall and blustery showers, flooding is not anticipated. Infrastructure teams are clearing drains in key areas to minimise risks.

The Government of Jersey has issued this statement featuring advice from Paul Aked at Jersey Met.
