Vaccination QR Code Site 'Flaws' Fixed By Next Week

Jersey's government says its digital vaccination certification system will be back up and running by the end of next week.

It was taken offline within hours of launching after an 'exploit' was discovered that allowed other people's vaccination data to be downloaded using personal information including their date of birth.

The Government of Jersey says officers are continuing to 'work at pace' to fix the flaw, and it plans to reinstate the service 'as soon as possible'.

In the meantime, QR codes can be obtained by calling the Coronavirus Helpline - 0800 735 5566 - or paper certificates previously posted out can still be used in many countries.

Anyone who downloaded a QR code PDF from the website before it was taken offline can continue to use it for up to 30 days after it was generated.

Islanders are being reminded to check the COVID vaccination requirements of any country they are travelling to.

The Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré, says further updates will come as officers work to fix the security issue and bring the website back online:

"Officials have been working hard with Microsoft to investigate the security issue and I would like to thank all the officers who are involved in finding a solution.

"I would like to remind Islanders that the COVID Status Certification is a service for Islanders travelling off-Island to countries that use vaccine certificates for domestic use or entry to their borders. It is not used internally in Jersey, or for Islanders returning through our own borders.

"If Islanders are travelling over half term and plan on calling the Coronavirus helpline to request their QR codes, please remember to only call up a couple of days prior to travel to ensure the codes last for as long as possible."
