Veterans Muratti kicks off tonight

Jersey is hosting a veterans Muratti football game tonight to raise money to support care homes in the island.

Springfield Stadium will be host the charity game, which kicks off at 6pm on 17 May.

Jersey Veterans Football team will take on Guernsey for the trophy, having come out on top in last year's derby.

This game ahead of the women's Muratti at 10,30am on on Saturday 18 May, and the men competing for the historic vase at 3pm.

Today;s veterans match, played by over 50s, is hoping to raise money for local causes in Jersey and Guernsey.

Players are collecting funds for both Jersey and Guernsey Cheshire Homes and are aiming to raise £1000.

In previous years, over £10,000 has been raised for the charities.

The Jersey Veterans Football Team

Steve Martin, who runs the Jersey Veterans Football Team, tells us what the game is all about:

"It's to raise a bit of money and to raise the profile of Jersey and Guernsey Cheshire Homes. The money we raise from the Jersey side stays in Jersey and the money raised from the Guernsey side stays in Guernsey.

"Target wise, if we got £1000 I'd be happy with that, over the moon."

Gaffer Steve tells us his predictions:

"We've won the last couple of games but I think it will be much closer now. I'm looking forward to it. It's our biggest game of the season and our most important game.

"I'd love it if we won 1-0, but I'd be happy if we won with anything."
