Visit Jersey 'Jumping For Joy' As Travel Rules Near End

Visit Jersey's CEO says the island will be one of the most easily accessible destinations in the world when border restrictions are scrapped.

The government has announced that all testing and isolation requirements for incoming passengers will be scrapped from Monday 7 February.

The pre-departure travel form will also be gone, along with the need to wear masks in indoor public spaces.

Amanda Burns says this is the news Jersey's tourism industry has been waiting for.

"We know there's a huge pent-up demand for travel, and we've been doing a lot to put Jersey on the map over the last few years.

The Covid travel restrictions have presented a huge challenge for us, especially hesitancy caused by being unsure about the restrictions in place, so we're thrilled with the announcement and feel it will be such a positive move for Jersey's visitor economy, and our visitors who we're looking forward to welcoming in 2022."

The government says this change is proportionate based on the current risk - but the option remains to bring border rules back if required.

Speaking to Channel 103, Ms. Burns says easing restrictions will likely bring about a huge boost for bookings and interest in the island.

"There has been so much research over recent years across various nations and organisations and we know consumers and travellers want to travel, but there is hesitancy because of the confusion that there are different travel policies in different jurisdictions.

So for Jersey to be able to have this really clear change that will make it very easy for visitors to come to the island is just going to be such a huge boost.

Now the job for everybody at Visit Jersey and our partners is to promote everything that Jersey can offer in the summer, but also in spring-time and in the autumn so that we can stretch the season and give more reasons to come to Jersey.

We know that visitors, when they get here, they can't believe what a fantastic island it is and what a brilliant experience they have and they come back year after year."
