WATCH: £14m Scheme To Revitalise Old Hotel

Plans have been unveiled to bring the Millbrook House Hotel back to life.

The new owners also want to build a new cookery school and restaurant - with the whole project costing more than £14 million.

The hotel, which closed several years ago, has been bought recently by CCA Galleries International.

They want to restore the buildings and create what has been described as 'an exceptional and characterful Art Hotel' with 39 bedrooms, 7 self-catering units and 6 eco-pods.

Plans also include a spa and wellness centre and a restored heritage gardens.

There would be a new road with an exit onto Le Chemins des Moulins.

"All buildings would be refurbished and new ancillary accommodation created. All designs include landscape protection, enhancement and a comprehensive landscaping scheme."

CCA Galleries International says the scheme would provide more than 40 jobs and significant inward investment at a time when other hotels are being lost.

It's hoped the new hotel would be open, subject to planning permission, in 2023.

More details on the project can be found here.

Visit Jersey CEO Amanda Burns has called the planned development 'a sign of confidence in Jersey's visitor economy'.

"The bespoke Art Hotel will provide unique and authentic experiences for both Jersey residents and visitors and will attract interest from potential guests looking for a ‘destination hotel’ to visit.

"Currently, Jersey lacks dedicated eco-accommodation and has a shortage in self-catering product, which we continue to see a surge in demand for. The development adds to Jersey’s tourism offering, particularly as we inspire visitors to discover the island year-round.

"Insights generated by our research agency in January 2021, The Nursery has found 24% of visitors seek luxury accommodation; 31% seek traditional self-catering accommodation, and 24% seek unique accommodation such as eco-tourism. This Millbrook House development ticks all these boxes and appeals to diverse segments of our target audience. Spa, wellness, culture and cookery all provide opportunities for friends and families to reconnect and revitalise and complement Jersey’s short break proposition, which is particularly important in the shoulder seasons.

"As Jersey sets out its ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030, it is important the product aligns to the promise. We believe this application will support consumer demand for sustainable visitor experiences. Across competitor markets, the eco-tourism product is well developed, so the plans for Millbrook House are welcomed. Recent research by booking.com found over half (55%) of global travellers are more determined to make sustainable travel choices than they were a year ago; and 70% of global travellers say they would be more likely to book an accommodation knowing it was eco-friendly. 62% would feel better about staying in an accommodation if they knew it had an eco-label. The Millbrook House development would very much enable Jersey to promote its eco-credentials."
